本総説では、カーボンナノリング類の合成に関する我々の研究：
(1) シクロパラフェニレン(CPP)の自在合成および迅速合成
(2) キラルカーボンナノリングの合成
(3) シクロ-1,4-ナフチレン(CN)の合成
について紹介している。これらカーボンナノリングは、アームチェア型もしくはキラル型カーボンナノチューブの部分骨格であり、直径・長さ・側面構造を完全に制御したカーボンナノチューブ合成の鋳型となる潜在的可能性を秘めている。
